For Carthus and his fellow Red Rexes, their second year at Koganri is one problem after another. Koganri's headmaster, Senator Ianus, has been replaced by someone from the opposing party, and the new headmaster has made it his mission to destroy the Red Rexes. Meanwhile, Carthus finds a clue that might unlock the mystery of last year’s assassination attempts, but he has no idea where the clues might lead—or who he can trust with the truth.
The Red Rexes’ only good luck comes in the form of two new teammates. Together, they train for the Maybranch’s final three events: the tricera joust, the plesie battle, and the infamous quetzo race. But when other teams aren’t playing fair and officials turn a blind eye, Carthus is tempted to step out of bounds to help his team. Can he really fix everything on his own?
