<image:title>Titles - In the Grip of the Ice - They say we are headed to the cruelest place in the world, but the Boss says it’s the last great challenge in the last place on earth. When teenager Perce Blackboro first heard about Ernest Shackleton’s planned expedition to Antarctica, he wanted to be a part of it. The Boss passed him over because he was too young, but that didn’t deter young Perce. He snuck onto the ship as a stowaway with the help of a friend, a member of the crew. Little did he know that when he climbed into that locker, the voyage on which he was embarking would be a fight for survival on one of the greatest expeditions in history.</image:title>

<image:caption>Amanda grew up in Maine, where she started writing stories in the wee hours of the morning when she was six. As a child, she loved ice cream shops with cows to visit and old libraries full of books. She grew up to also love wildflowers, mountains, road trips, camping, gardening, and spending time with friends and their small children in New England and beyond. She’s a nanny to her cousins, two little girls who keep her laughing, busy, and looking out for owls and trains like only a two-year-old can. She lives in Ohio, but listening to the crashing waves and breathing in briny ocean air as the tide recedes is still her favorite thing in the world.</image:caption>

This is a question many children have dreamed about, but have you ever considered what would happen if the characters in story books entered our world? Author J. A. <image:caption>John was born in the state of Indiana, but quickly moved to Northern Michigan. There he spent a large portion of his childhood at a 120-acre Christian camp. In these wide spaces he spent his summer days, wandering the woods, swimming in the lake, catching frogs and snakes for fun, shooting at the archery range and pretending to be Robin Hood, riding dune carts as much as he was allowed, and playing with the new friends he made weekly. As he grew his parents moved again and shortly thereafter he started his first “real” job as a strawberry picker. Since his first job (which only lasted one summer), he has held jobs in many other lines of work: being a grocery clerk, a sawmill worker, a landscaper, a waiter, and a cook in an industrial kitchen. One year after college he and his wife, who was expecting their first child, moved halfway around the world to be missionaries in Ghana, West Africa. This has been his life’s calling ever since. During his time in the tropical sun he has discovered and re-discovered many things. Guitar playing, reading great books, and learning how not to sweat in the 100+ degree weather are just a few of them, but one of greatest treasures he shares with his beautiful wife and four girls is the joy of telling story.</image:caption>

After realizing that his dream to be a pirate on the high seas was an occupation most likely fraught with hazard, John decided to pursue his aspiration to become an artist. He began his intensive art training by copying of all the pictures from his Little Golden Books. Over time John began to have his own ideas and found that creating designs from his imagination brought him the greatest thrill. Born into a ministry home with a father who is a pastor, John has enjoyed the unique perspective of life from within a fish bowl. Little did John realize this arrangement afforded him the greatest opportunity to develop the observation skills he would need in the future. Endlessly fascinated and inspired by the mighty works of God in creation John is an avid mineral and fossil collector. Thanks to the good nature of his wife Erin, John’s mineral collection is on permanent display in their living room. No stranger to wearing a lot of hats, John is also an assistant pastor of a small Baptist church in New England alongside his father the senior pastor. <image:title>Titles - Real Poems for Real Moms - From one mother in the trenches to another</image:title>
<image:caption>Honest, funny, and encouraging, this collection of "mom poetry" is written by a mother in the trenches of motherhood as a means of encouraging other moms. It's a perfect gift for any mother who needs a pick-me-up from a kindred spirit. Real Poems for Real Moms: From a Mother in the Trenches to Another, by Rachel S. Donahue, combines traditional poetic forms (like sonnets, a limerick, and haikus) with playful concrete poems, free verse, and a couple forms the author made up because they suited her.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Rachel Donahue isn’t a typical homeschooling mother of four: after finishing her English degree, she and her husband, Mick, moved to Spain and spent the next dozen years in cross-cultural ministry. When family circumstances brought them back to North Carolina, a return to literature ushered her into a new season of writing: both poetry and the beginnings of a novel. Friendships with other writers, combined with her editing experience and design work, led to the publication of her first book: Real Poems for Real Moms: from a Mother in the Trenches to Another.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Did you know that an orb weaver spider "eats" her web? Or that Smilax thorns come from a series of tumorous rhizomes connected underground? Rachel S. Donahue didn't either, until she started paying attention. After living the nomadic life of an overseas worker, Rachel found herself settled on one plot of land for more than five years with ample time for observation. These poems reveal what she's seen beyond the spiders, birds, and vines—the deeper struggles and shimmering mystery of life on this corner of the earth.</image:caption>

<image:caption>“The best poetry helps us see and hear that which we might otherwise take for granted or fail to notice. Rachel S. Donahue’s poetry helps us appreciate ordinary, domestic life for what it is: magical, meaningful, and anything but mundane. These lyrics are deceptively simple. This means they are welcoming as open doors, but they are not simplistic. They are more like a house with many rooms and this collection is worth the slow wandering of reading and re-reading. Rachel writes the glory of her ordinary life so that we can better see our own.” –Christie Purifoy, author of Roots and Sky and Placemaker</image:caption>

<image:caption>Perhaps it is a coincidence that Anya arrived on Karan’s doorstep—without a past and with great skill in magic—the same night that Crown Prince Loran died, but Karan is not certain she believes in coincidence anymore. Author Carolyn Clare Givens' young adult fantasy novel is a story of friendship, redemption, and sacrifice. As Karan and Anya, along with Karan's brother Richard and friend Edmund, begin to seek the promised Rose of the Ancient Writings, they learn that the destinies of kingdoms are forged, not always in the heat of battle, but in the hearts and minds of their leaders.</image:caption>

She works in communications at New City Church in North Carolina, handling much of the stuff that goes on screens or paper (or signs, or t-shirts, or pens, or mugs….). Carrie lives in Charlotte with her literary cat, Lord Peter Wimsey. She has previously bumped around the world, both as a missionary kid and adult. Carrie was part of the publishing process on more than 30 books before launching Bandersnatch. <image:caption>A bandersnatch is a fictional creature invented by Lewis Carroll in his novel Through the Looking-Glass, but we adopted the name in a circuitous manner. In Diana Pavlac Glyer’s book Bandersnatch: C.S. Lewis, J.R.R. Tolkien and the Creative Collaboration of the Inklings she writes that C.S. Lewis once remarked about his friend J.R.R. Tolkien, “No-one ever influenced Tolkien. You might as well try to influence a bandersnatch.” Illustration: Peter Newell, from Lewis Carroll’s Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There, (New York and London: Harper & Brothers Publishers, 1902)</image:caption>
