Doodle’s Mountain

We all crave the peace that’s found in nature.

While on a summer vacation with his family, young Doodle is overwhelmed by his noisy surroundings. He spends his vacation saying “Shhh…” to all the noise around him—until he encounters something new and quiet.

A delightful read-aloud for small children, written by Amanda Brindley and illustrated by Sofia Rector, Doodle’s Mountain’s peaceful images and rhythmic style make it perfect for highly sensitive children like Doodle. It engages them in a playful response to overwhelming environments, evokes wonder, and encourages readers to be in awe of beauty.

Amanda Brindley

Amanda grew up in Maine, where she started writing stories in the wee hours of the morning when she was six. As a child, she loved ice cream shops with cows to visit and old libraries full of books. She grew up to also love wildflowers, mountains, road trips, camping, gardening, and spending time with friends and their small children in New England and beyond. She’s a nanny to her cousins, two little girls who keep her laughing, busy, and looking out for owls and trains like only a two-year-old can. She lives in Ohio, but listening to the crashing waves and breathing in briny ocean air as the tide recedes is still her favorite thing in the world.

An artist and writer with a love for quiet spaces, Sofia Rector seeks to witness and add to the beauty she discovers: around her home in the northern suburbs of Cincinnati, while exploring hiking trails and climbing crags with her husband and son, or in the pages of a book (with a mug of black coffee or tea in hand). Sofia shares her mixed media artwork, written reflections, and glimpses of the everyday beautiful at instagram.com/artadorningthedark.
